About Douglas Siemonsma
Douglas Siemonsma is an accomplished logistician with more than 30 years of military and commercial experience, with the preceding twelve years in logistics and supply chain management, including end-to-end global deployment, sustainment, and redeployment of personnel, personal property, and equipment utilizing air, land, and sea transportation. He is well-versed in leadership and the practical application of strategic logistics planning, lean process design, operational execution, procurement, and contract management.
Siemonsma’s varied management and distribution positions have combined a thorough analysis and application of sound logistics and supply chain principles to develop and implement innovative solutions to complex problems. He has planned, executed, and managed efficient and effective forward and reverse flow of equipment, personnel, and related information domestically and internationally to meet customer requirements.
In addition, he has guided the use of strategic transportation assets and enabled capabilities to solve distribution problems related to supply chain management, distribution, and deployment operations within the Defense Transportation System (DTS).
A helicopter pilot, Siemonsma has been honored to serve in several prestigious positions, including Aircraft Commander, Mission Commander, Functional Check Flight Instructor, Aircrew Coordination Instructor, Safety Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Air Boss – Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Role as Transportation Specialist at Military Sealift Command
Siemonsma is currently a Transportation Specialist for the Military Sealift Command (MSC), which is responsible for providing sealift and ocean transportation for all U.S. military services and other government agencies. Marine Transportation Specialists at MSC are the front line in answering operational questions concerning MSC ships worldwide.
His duties involve administering, supervising, or performing work involving ship operating policies, monitoring readiness, and reporting requirements. He is instrumental in guiding the United States Transportation Command and the Maritime Administration in developing and tracking readiness reporting statistics for the Ready Reserve Force. The products developed were used in the Commander’s testimony before the Armed Services Committee.
